LISTEN ERS' LEAGUE
A;'meeting of tho provisional executive of the New Zealand Badio Listeners' League was held in Dunedin last week. This was the first meeting held since the secretary (Mr. H. Booth) returned from bis organising tour. In presenting his report the secretary remarked that H was unfortunate that the earthquakes occurred just at the time when he arrived in the North Island, and this disaster militated very seriously against the work undertaken by him during tho tour. However, in spite of this, he was able to hold several meeting in Christchurch, Wellington, Palmcrston North, and Auckland, and good foundation work was done in the interests of tho league. In all these places committees were set up and organising work commenced. Owing to the earthquake it was impossible to arrange any large public meetings m the North Island towns, but arrangements were well in hand for theso meetings to be held in the near future. As a result of the tour the league now had representatives in all the large centres, and work of organising was speedily progressing. The names of the organising secretaries in the various districts . were as follows:— Christchurch, Mr. A. E. Allardyce; Wellington, Mr. C.. Charlsworth, public accountant;' Palmerston North, Mr. W M Huntington;' Auckland, Mr. Salt; Napier, Mr. A. J. Clarke; Wairoa, Mr. A. Pcr.ry; Mnstertou, Mr. ..G. C. Holmes; Hamilton, Mr. J. &• Anchor; Greymouth, Mr. Spier 3; InvercargiJl, Mr. L. Kichards; Dunedin, Mr. H. "Booth. Listeners interested' could obtain full particulars and information of membership by applying to any of them. It was reported that tho league, in conformity with its ■ objects and purposes of assisting radio broadcasting generally, interested ,itself in the negotiations between the B class stations and the Copyright Association, and aa a result was able to say that arrangements were being completed whereby the B class stations could resumo broadcasting by payment of _ a lee to the Performing Eight Association until 31st December, when it was hoped the league' would be sufficiontly. organised to induce the Govern-' ment to carry out its ideas whereby auy. fee necessary, to ...satisfy, the Per-
forming Eight Association shall be paid1 direct from the listeners'.licence fees for all stations. It was felt that a more satisfactory arrangement could be made by the Government dealing with the Dominion position as a whole.
