MENA GRIFFITHS CASE
ACCUSED PROVES ALIBI
MELBOURNE, 18th February.. Robert M'Mahon, who waa charged with the murder of Mena Griffiths, has been released from custody. The Crown entered a nolle prosequi. The Crown Prosecutor intimated that M'Mahon had established beyond doubt that he was a hundred miles from the scene of the murder when the crime waa committed. On sth December, after covering thousands of miles in a search far the murderer of Mena Griffiths, aged twelve, detectives arrested in Sydney Robert M'Mahon, aged 36, a labourer. The body of Mena Griffiths was found in an empty house at Bentleigh on 9th November. A gag was knotted tightly round the face, and death was apparently due to suffocation. The girl's companions saw her leave the playground with a man.
