WORLD'S WHEAT
CONFERENCE PROPOSED
A WASHINGTON SCHEME
(Received 10th February, 11 a.m.) •■■}., OTTAWA, 18th February. Representations have been made to the Canadian Dominion Government, it was stated on Wednesday, that a conference should be held in which Russia, Australia, Argentina, and Canada should participate for the purpose of a discussion of the wheat situation. It is understood that so far the Canadian Government does not take kindly to such a conference, the idea of which has emanated from Washington, quoting Mr. Alexander Legge, the retiring chairman of the United States Farm Board, as stating that such a conference might be advantageous, possibly disclosing on the part of ' Russia a readiness to agree to some scheme for more orderly marketing and assuring better prices for wheat to all producing countries.
