MR. BALDWIN COULD LEARN (Received Ist November, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 31st October. The Conservative Press congratulates Mr. Baldwin on the result of the secret ballot and relies on the pledge of all present to abide by the decision and rally round the leader and show a united front to the enemy. The "Daily Express" considers that Mr. Baldwin's continuance- in the leadership not only means the- collapse of the party, but is tantamount to handing over the Government as a free gift i to the Socialists. j The "Daily Telegraph" hopes .that Mr. Baldwin will take to heart some of the criticisms, and instances his lack of vigour iii attack in the House of Commons, partiality for colleagues, j irreverently styled the "Old Gang," and failure to give the younger men a chance. s "The Times" says that among several good reasons why Mr. Baldwin continues leader is that the-re is no one at present whom the party and the country prefer to sec in his place.
