Tho population of Continental Unitedl States on the basis of- official preliminary census figures is 122,728,873, sayi the Boston "Christian Science Monitor."-

This figure is compiled-from official announcements given Associated.Press bureaus by census supervisors 'in the; various States after completing tlia enumeration which began on 2nd April. Only one district in '.the United States—in Clearficld county, Pennsylvania—was incomplete, but a preliminary estimate by the census supervisory placed its population at 1319. The total figure' for the "United States^ population is, however, "subject to revision in the Census Bureau's»offi« cial announcement. Territories of the United States and outlying possessions, not included in the Continental United States total, bring the nation's grand total of population to 137,501,561. This figure iueludes an estimate for the, Philippina Islands, whoso census is controlled by the insular Government, which has not made an enumeration for several years. Continental United States had 105,. 710,620 people ten years agoj while tha nation with its outlying- possession! totalled 117,859,395. The country has had "the "largest numerical increase for. -.Continental United States in its history during the last ten years, despite restricted immigration and a declining birth rate, There was an increase of 17,018,253 people in the decade, compared witfl! the previous record increase for a t/enyear period of 15,977,691, made between 1900 and 1910.
