MODERATELY PRICED BOARDING SCHOOLS

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Will you permit me space in your columns to bring before , the people ,of Wellington the inadequate provision for Protestant children in the way of moder-ately-priced boarding schools. I am- a busi; ness woman dependent on my own earnings for myself and child. I am constantly faced with the problem of suitable accommodation, more particularly for the child. Although he is well-trained and obedient, he cannot be left to his own resources from after school hours till my return at night, and yet who will provide reasonable lodgings for such? Realising the necessity of getting my child permanently settled so as to give him a fair chance a,t school, I turned my thoughts recently towards boarding schools for him. I found the Catholic schools the only ones within reach of my pocket, and yet I wish my child to retain his own denomination. The colleges aro much beyond my pocket, and it has occurred to me that if some enterprising Protestant body got to work and found the ways and means of building a boarding school similar to those run by the Catholic people, it would be a wonderfully human© work, and I am sure would pay its own way. I understand in the places referred to one can place a child for £50 a year, and there he receives every care and attention. There must be scores of struggling mothers like myself facing the same worrying prob-lem.-I am, etc., p EEPLBXED .
