FRENCH CLUB
The 1030 session of the Cercle Francais ■■opened on Thursday night iv the Pioneer Club's reception hall, which was filled with an appreciative audience. The programme was opened by the president, Mr. F. F. Miles, who was supported by M. F. Bouillet and Professor E. J. Boyd-Wilson i (vice-presidents). Musical items'were, con-tributed-by. Misses Bennie and Mavis and Ailsa Dillon. Madame de Filippi read an article from a French newspaper, "Impressions dun Officer, dv Cvoiseur Tourville en Nouvelle Zelande," and Madame T. R. Herd recited some poems by Auguste Angellier. Mr. ; Balhara caused much amusement. with a monologue (written by M. Bouillet), and a quintette for ■ piano and strings (Miss Reid, Messrs. Allen, Lomas, 0. H. Keys, and: A. C. Keys) was another' Buccesslul item. Mr.: Miles announced the early departure of Madame Beridall .on a;trip abroad: Supper was served, : .and "La Marseillaise" was sung to the accompaniment of* Madame DechanetM'lntosh.
