A GARDEN FETE

A garden party in aid of-the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church was held at Karori in the beautiful grounds of Mr. and Mrs. B. Sutherland's home in llomewood avenue. The fete was organised by Mrs. D. B. Kennedy, who had the support of an enthusiastic band of workers drawn from the ladies' guild, members of the congregation, and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland gave every assistance, and 'contributed in no small moa-suro to the success of the function. The Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery (the Roy. J. R. Blanchard) opened the fete. Stallholders were as follows:—-Work' stall, Mesdames Falconer and Reid; vegetables, Mrs. Pickering-;' cakes, Mesdames Dryden, ~ Hyde; -and .Wilson; sweets, Miss Book. and Bible Class girls; ice-creams, Miss :E. Hodson and helpers; afternoon tea, Mesdames Stewart, M'lntosh, Spencer, Baudinet, Hodson, Jamieson, Sandholm," and members of the Bible Class. Those in charge of games were: —Croquet, Mrs. Pritchard; billiards, Mr. Dryden; tennis,' Mr. Armstrong; swimming, Mr. J. Osbaldistou; quoits, Mr. J. Smith; skittles, Mr. 11. Wallace; golf, the Eev. ■G. D. . Falconer. Mr. G. Fearn was in charge of the begonia house. Messrs. Baudinet Moncur, and Robertson acted as gatekeepers, Mr. D. C. Waldio was ,in charge of the transport, Mr. W. Pickering undertook the secretarial duties, and Mr. A. Roxburgh acted as treasuier. Winners of the baking competitions were:—Fruit cake, Mrs. Hyde; sponge cake, Miss Ecdwodd and Mrs. Hyde; shortbread, Miss Lawson; pikelets, Miss Lawson;- pastry,. Mrs. Kennedy; scones, Mrs.. Iv. Freeman.'
