•,■ DUNEDIN, This Day.. ' The crew of the big oversea steameij Earanga had. been notified to vacate thij vessel all day yesterday while her holds were being fumigated preparatory tqj taking in cargo. A rationing allowance of 3s per man was announced. Thd sailors and firemen demurred, regarding the allowance as inadequate.■•>■" ■■-• ■ "You just figure it out for yourself,** said a fireman to a sympathiser." "AI mob of fifty healthy men walking about the streets all day looking for the nex^ meal hour." It was "not ■• good enough," so the men flatly declined to evacuate the ship. Yesterday morning, ( however, the difficulty quickly vanished, when it was announced that the pocket money had been generously increased. That announcement was greeted with a cheer, and the men left the ship gladly; after all.
The Earanga goes.into dry dock aft Port Chalmers on Friday, and next weelg she will leave for Lyttelton and othe^ Northern ports, to load for New Yorij Halifax, and London. !•..■' v
