PEACETIME ACTIVITIES The Peacetime executive o£ the "Wellington Red Cross Society met yesterday afternoon, Mr. C. 11. Chapman presiding. There were also present Mesdauies low, C. H. Chapman, i'\ W. Kemp, Wilson Downes, H. Cameron, F. T. Clarke, Moore, Mr. Grant, Miss Jiown, Miss Lissington (junior Red Cross), and Sister Lewis. Apologies were received from Mesdames Warwick, A. J. Meredith, S. Myers, Miss Kagar, aud Mr. A. Martin. It was reported that the society hud co-operated with the R.S.A. on Poppy Day,^ the convenors being Mesdumes C. H. Chapman and Angus, who deserved great praise for their work. The question of the society's street day was held over until the next committee meeting, when the secretary, C;iptuiu Galloway, would be present. : I An anonymous donation of £12 was received with thanks. A report was made on the distribution of gift apples seat by Mr. Jlcimann, of Hawkes Bay, and entrusted by the Mayor to the society for distribution. Many j families and orphanages had benefited as a result, and another truck load of 112 sacks was now being allotted. Thank 6 were due to the Black and White Express Co., Messrs. Barton Ginger, and Messrs. M'Ewau and Carter for free cartage. Many letters of thanks had been received from those who had been given apples. Mr. and Mrs. Chapman reported on the . meeting of the After Care Association' which they attended as the society's "representatives, and commended the work of I the association to the society's members. The director of the Jubilee Institute for tbe Blind wrote regarding the sale of baskets. It was mentioned that the society had a number of these baskets on hand, and was selling them at intervals. During the Winter Show each year a special effort was made, and this year the articles would be incorporate with the I Red Cross exhibit at the show. Mrs. Kemp said that the Upper Hutt Branch of the Red Cross had undertaken to have a sale of baskets shortly. A report was received from tho Taranaki Branch of the "Red Cross, and it was decided to acknowledge the report and congratulate the society on its past year's work. The district officer in charge of the Labour Bureau wrote that he had found work for several cases noted by the society and it was resolved to thank him for his assistance. A letter of thanks was received from St. Joseph's Convent, Napier, on behalf of Miss Emily Walker, to whom the society had sent a gift parcel.

Miss Bown, on behalf of the Ladies' Auxiliary, reported that during March and April. 31 necessitous cases had been assisted, and 336 garments, 19 pairs of boots and slioes, and 5 layettes had been distributed as well as 6V& yards of new flannel. The auxiliary had also continued to run the cafeteria at the Hospital. Tlio Unemployment Relief Committee had not met during the month, but the secretary had investigated a number of cases and various forms of relief had been iiiven. Indications were not wanlins that distress would again be prevalent during the winter, necessitating regular weekly meetings of the committee.
