One first-offending inebriate, who had spent the night in the cells, was convicted and discharged; another was lined ss; and wo others, who did not appear, were each lined the amount of their bail—los For deserting from the Tasmania'at Wellington on Bth Api-,1, Benjamin Stone, aged 3,7, and Edward Charles Creed, aged V \vero each convicted and ordered to repay tho expenses incurred by the shipping company-£2 IO S each. As an excuse for his action Creed said ho could not settle down in the ship and Stone said that he iv-as having trouble at home. Ihomas King, alias Dalgety Alexander, aged 47 for his second statutory offence of drunkenness was fined 10s, in default toity-eight hours' imprisonment
