CRACKED SEA-VALVE STATEMENTS OF STOKERS Australian Press Association. NORFOLK (Virginia), loth Nov. The commanding officer of the Wyoming, which has arrived here with some of the Vestris 's survivors, has forwarded to tho Navy Department a report on tho causes, based on tho statements of members of tho crew. Rescued stokers of the Vestris state that tho first leak came from a cracked sea-valve, and went down to the ashhopper in the stokehold. This seavalve was cracked before the Vestris started on her voyage, and thero had been some question as to whether she would sail at all. Saturday's storm opened the seams of the Vestris to a great extent. Water rushed in and could not bo controlled.
