THE SIX-WHEELER
Numerous severe tests and long-c'lis-taneo trials of the rigid six-whoo! ntotor vehicle have been carried out in Australia .within the past couple of years, and everywhere the success of this type of .'transport for rough country is being acclaimed. One of the lirst of (hose vehicles brought lo Australia was acquired by au oil company, and it is reported., that its use has entirely overcome the previously insuperable din.-' cullies which tbo company bad experienced in maintaining efficient distribution of supplies during the winter when the roads-in the outlying districts wore impassable, aud it was uo uncommon occurrence'for cars to become stranded in deep mud. The six-wheeler, when equipped with non-skid chains on the driving wheels, was able to plough its I way through mud axle deep, and even tv pull out. a stranded touring car "iv its stride,'.' proving that the vehicle possessed ;i remarkable reserve of power.. Operators of fleets of trucks and Imses, as well as owners of passenger cars, particularly in the high-priced I ' class, are realising how much more
economical it is for'them to have crankshafts trued up, and undersize crankshaft main Hue bearings installed before, a bearing actually burns out, which often causos great damage to an expensive power unit. With the aid of the present lino boring equipment that all up-to-date shops possess, theso undersize bearings can bo lined up after the shaft is true, making a bearing job as good as tho original factory 'installation.
