FRUIT EXPORT

SYSTEM WORKING SMOOTHLY (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Exporters of fruit assembled at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon to hear an address by Mr. H. E. Stephens, the London representative of New Zealand fruit growers. In regard to Home and Continental markets and prospects for the future, Mr. Stephens stated that intense interest was being taken in the control system adopted by' New Zealand, which was working smoothly in association with English interests. During his stay in England he had received visits from representatives of Tasmania, Western Australian, South Africa, and Canada, who had been sent Home to study marketing conditions and the working of the New Zealand scheme. "These men," said Mr. Stephens, "were out to pick holes, but I think every one of them was convinced that we are working on sound lines. We could do nothing without the Government guarantee, which is; more than a simple matter of finance. It is the backbone of da-w-hole scheme, making us completely independent as to where we place our fruit. Once a broker finances a grower he is in the broker's hands and not a free agent." Everybody be met was out to help New Zealand. They all recognised that the Dominion was putting over something fresh and that our1 scheme was a good one and workable.
