As she danced .aton.g'she stopped and picked some ofher mrmesakes. and clasped tlieini'tightly in her hoi hands: Her- name was-Daffodil.. .....; .'''.'■ On she:went; dancing and singing in joyous delight.; Suddenly she fell. '• The hills around echoed the'sqtind\pf a shrill childish scmtni. Then all was quiet. ' • .'• -.-.■■ ■'•.'■',.■ It was, two-years.lalev. Spring had come -again,' lbe..Birds : Irilled their sweet songs '..from morn till night, and daffodils, were bloom" ing in the fields. .'.-■■ .' ■' : It was late afternoon when a car drew up at the door of-a-neat cottage,.and a small girl, dressed daintily:'iii a frock'of orange, jumped out, followed by an elderly gentleman. "Oh Daddy, just lock at these lovely daffodils." pried-the little-girl.' "I must go and pick some." « . . It was Daffodil, who had eune back from the hospital after having hurt her back on that spring day. '." , .;._•' Now she wandered through ihe-daffodils once again, and they bent their golden heads as though bowing to .heir queen. , The sun set behind the western hills.
