Waterside 30 Hutt 2 Brooklyn 2 Jolinsoin-ille 0 Thistio 2 South Wellington . 1 Marist 4 Swifts 1 The meeting of Y.M.O.A. and I'etone at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, in the senior A competition, provided a large number of spectators.with a bright and willing display of the Association code. As far. as the football was concerned, no fault could be found. V.M.C.A., who recently suffered two defeats, fielded _ a •stronger team than usual, and it was quite apparent from their play that they were out to win from the beginning. Their opponents, Petone, had till last Saturday been unbeaten this season, and when the teams took .the field it was anticipated that a hard game would result. It did. Both sides gave a bright, and, at times, a pretty exhibition of the code. Petone had an advantage in the early stages of the match, but after Young- Men settled down play waseveu. On the day, Y.M.C.A.'s win was well earned. A section of the crowd showed a hostile spirit towards the referee during the game, und did not accept his rulings. Towards the end, two spectators, evidently Petone supporters, invaded the playing area and endeavoured to argue with the referee, who ordered them off. Mr. F. Sanders, who controlled the game, bad to be escorted ■from the playing area to the dressingrooms. „. In the other senior A matches, lJiamonds easily beat Seatoun, and Thistle and JUjirisfc each had wins. Diamonds retain their lead in the championship.
