Police cases at the Magistrate's Court to? day wore dealt with by Mr. K. Page, S.M. Two first offending inebriates, who did not appear, were each fined 10s, the amount o£ their bail, and another who was arrested yesterday had his bail, £1, estreated. Josephine Anna Mouthy, aged 40, win was said by Sub-Inspector Lander to havft been drinking consistently since her discharge from Pakatoa Island recently, adadmitted a second statutory offence of drunkenness and two charges of procuring liquor while prohibited. Acting on the Sub-luspector's recommendation, the Magistrate committed Monthy to the island again for twelve months, but on learning from Mrs. Glover (Salvation Army) that the island authorities were unlikely to take the defendant, owing to the conditio- of her health, Mr. Page sentenced her to seven days' imprisonment on the drunkenness charge. A remand for one week was granted on the ■ other two charges to enable the gaol surgeon to examine the defendant. "Since her discharge from Fakatoa Island recently, she has been drinking heavily, and it would appear that she is a fit subject to be returned there," said Sub-Inspector Lander in the Magistrate's Court to-day of Florence Emma Emeny, aged 57, who admitted two charges of procuring liquor while prohibited, one charge of entering licensed premises while prohibited, and a fourth statutory offence of drunkenness. On one of the charges of procuring liquor, Emeny was committed to the island for twelve months. She was convicted mid discharged for drunkenness, and for the other two breaches of the order she was convicted and ordered to come up for Sentence, if called upon, within twelve months.
