MUSICAL TASTE
(To the Edtior.) Sir, —All lovers 'of genuine music will rejoice to learn tliat the Symons-Elhvood-Short Trio is to continue playing at'2YA broadcasting station. This superlative combination has given inexpressible ■ pleasure to. an immense circle of appreciative lis-'teners-in, who will breathe a sigh of relief tllat the testimony of the jazz fiends lias not been allowed to prevail. The retention of the trio is also proof positive that music is not dead in New Zealand. No one knows better than I do that good music, properly performed, will always find support in any community. The general public are possessed of a temporary aberration in favour of negroid noises, but this will pass; it is already on the wane in the country of its origin. In any case, it has not exerted, and never_ will exert,., any influence upon sane musical taste. —I am, etc., L. D. AUSTIN. 6th May. ■ '
