SENIOR A GRADE
A WIN FOR 'VARSITY. Although they wore beaten by 'Varsity lo the tune ot 7 goals to 3, the Betonu team, in their lirst game in the senior A grade, were by no means disgraced. The several players who have been brought in showed distinct promise, ami when tho team have had more opportunity of working up combination they should give a belter account of themselves; The 'Varsity forwards took play to the Petone area in the early stages, and M'Donald was given a chance to score, but shot wide. I'etone retaliated, but James relieved and play went back to the Petone circle, where Sykcs snapped up a good' centre and scored. The students again attacked, but Malcolm (inside left for Petone) intercepted a pass and took the ball down the held in a good solo run to equalise. Simpson scored twice for 'Varsity before halftime. 'Varsity 3, Petone 1. Petone wont away after the resumption, Malcolm netting, but the students held the upper hand almost throughout the second spell, and put on four more, goals from the sticks of M'Donald, M'Leod, and Sykes (2). Petone were able to score only one, Campbell netting, and the game ended: 'Varsity 7, Petone 3. Mr. \V. A. Scott was tho referee.
