SWIFTS v. JOHNSONVILLE.
Swifts defeated Johnsonville at Kelburn Park on Saturday by the odd goal in five. The score could be taken as a fair enough indication of the relative strengths of the teams, although both sides missed chances of improving it. Johnsonville kicked off and Swifts immediately attacked. The first goal went to Swifts from a penalty, A. Longbottom having no trouble in netting. After some evenly-divided play, A. Longbottom at centre-forwaVd secured, and with a beautful rising shot from the field, scored his second goal. Swifts' third, goal came shortly after, when White at the inside left position scored from a mix-up in front of the goal. From the kick-off the Jo'hnsouville forwards took the ball up the field and in spite of the defence of the Reds, Hane, Johnsonville's inside right, scored his side's first goal. Half-time came with the score, 3-1. In the second half the game degenerated, both sides, with a few individual exceptions, playing carelessly and loosely. Towards the end, Hunt, the Johnsonville centre- forward, obtained the ball from a free kick and goaled. Johnsonville tried to equalise, but the best they could do was to force a couple of corners, at which stage the final whistle sounded, leaving Swifts the winners, 3-2.
