With the Avind in their favour Petone had all the best of . the first half, but long-distance and erratic shooting Avas not conducive to goal-scoring. After changing ends Institute obtained the lead, Maddocks scoring a goal Avith a Avell-timed shot. Time and again it seemed as if Petone must score, but tho ball Avent anyAvhere except through the goal. Institute broke away several times, but the forwards met their match in Petono's back division. When it looked as if Petone would never equalise, a melee in- the mouth of Institute's goal resulted in the ball being carried over the line, the scores thus being evened. Very shortly afterwards the final whistle Avas sounded, leaving the scores unchanged: Petone 2, Institute 2.
