LAST QUARTER'S FIGURES
The Public Aeounts for tho quarter ended 30th June, 1927, appear in a special "Gazette" this week.
REVENUE,
The revenue received for the three months 'amounted to £4,945,689, as compared with £4,337,550 received for the corresponding period last year, an increase of £608,109. The principal increases are: Customs, £329,039; stamp and death duties, £149,767; interest on public moneys, £22,764; interest on railway capital lia- I bility, £189,447. | The increase in Customs receipts is clue principally ttf recent heavy withdrawals from bond, and will probably bo offset later in the-year by a decrease in tho returns from this source. The increase in interest on railway capital liability is largely nominal, being due chiefly to the fact that the interest has been received earlier this year than last year. The only decrease of note is one of £32,547 in the item "Recoveries on account of expenditure of previous years.". £30,000 was received under this head during the previous year in repayment of a loan made to the Dunedin ami South Seas Exhibition, and this, of course, does not recur this year. EXPENDITURE. Tho total expenditure for tho three months is: Permanent appropriations, £4,005,076; annual appropriations, £2,----088,680; total, £6,093,756; as compared with permanent appropriations, £3,----796,697; annual appropriations, £2,----018,115; total, £5,816,812; lor tho corresponding period of last year, an increase of £270,944 made up as. follows: ] permanent appropriations, £206^379; annual appropriations, £70,565; total, £276,944. The principal items of inincrcase avo: Under permanent charges, interest, £118,531; under special Acts, £79,197.
A considerable portion of interest due, which is a. set-off against interest payments, was not received until f-fter 30th June this year. Earlier payments this year are responsible for the increase under special Acts.
