BRITISH AND FOREIGN SAILORS' SOCIETY
A delightful concert was held on Thursday at. the British and Foreign Sailors' Society's; rooms, 94, Jervois quay. There was a crowded attendance. The party waß arranged by Mrs. Rosenthal, who also acted as hostess, and the chair was taken by Mr. B. Padman. Each item was received with applause, the performers having to respond to numer-, ous encores. A feature of the evening was the blending of two choruses by Mrs. "Rosenthal, the audience taking up the refrain. Supper was handed round by the B. and F.S. Society's lady workers during the interval. The gathering concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, after, which the men gave cheers for the performers. Songs were contributed by Misses Eileen Woolcott, Cassie Weston, and^Mrs. Rosenthal, duets by Messrs. Wilson and Forrester; musical monologues and recitations by Misses Freeman and Goodwill; violin solos by Miss Field, and pianoforte items by Mrs. Metcalf. Mrs. Metcalf was the acrompanist for tho evening. On Wednesday tho mid-week social was held, the rooms being filled to their utmost. Games, songs, etc., were the order of the evening. Supper was handed round, after which one of the men from tho Maimoa entertained those present iwith conjuring and sleight-of-hnnd tricks.
