VICTORIA LEAGUE

A RECORD OF GOOD WORK,

The annual meeting of the Victoria League held on Thursday night at the Pioneer Club Rooms was a pleasantly informal meeting, when the report showed a, record of good work, and the bal-ance-sheet a substantial credit. Mrs. Buckleton presided, and in a brief speech explained that the work of the league was largely connected with hospitality and education. , The former was in reference to the letters which are provided to members to take to England or other parts of the Empire, and which mean introduction to friends, 'and a great deal of hospitality, more indeed, than some of the travellers can accept. The letters which are delivered here mean the same privileges so far as can be accomplished in the Dominion. In educational matters the best was done W give an ideal of loyalty to King and country to the young people, and Mrs. Buckleton was of opinion that this work might be extended. Another important branch of work was in connection with the migrants to this country who come specially recommended: to the league. Mrs. Buckleton mentioned the geographical confusion which exists concerning this country, as well as in other parts, quoting from Sir Hugh Clifford in Africa, who found an astonishing ignorance abroad.
