SHAPE OF THE EARTH
Eminent mathematicians - and geographers met in the Map Room at the headquarters of tlie "Royal Geographical Society in London recently to discuss what figure should be adopted by all countries as tho standard shape of the earth. Tlie earth is not a complete sphere as it bulges round the equator and/ is flattened at the Poles, and an official of tlio society explained to a "Daily Mail" reporter that authorities in different countries differ 'considerably as to tho extent of this deviation or eilipticity.
"None of them is absolutely right," no said, "but we want lo get "a discussion with a, viow to determining what shall be accepted as a working figure by all countries as far as possible because the tables used iv geographical science oe-peaii on the figures used as a, basis."
