la the annual match between the Union Steam Ship Company and the Combined Shipping Companies, played at Seatoun .Park on Saturday afternoon the combined offices had an easy win by 29 points to nil. The^ occasion was made a very pleasant one for spectators as well as players, the Union Company's tug Terawhiti being specially commissioned to take the party to Seatoun and lady enthusiasts providing afternoon tea at the ground. The weather was excellent, but thd game was not as interesting as had been anticipated, the combined team proving too strong a proposition for the Union Company, whose players showed a want of combination and weakness in defence. The combined team played solidly and well after settling down. The.early stages of the gamejiid not'produce any scores, but as the' combined team's players came to know one another's play better they frequently penetrated the opposing line of defence in which there were Weak points. At the end of the first spell they had a lead of 11 points, and •this ,was increased by 18 points in the second spell. Union Company failed to score. The final score was Combined Offices 29, Union Company nil. Tries were scored by Hester (2), Jowett, Desmond, Warwick, Biss, and Winham. Winham converted two tries and potted a goal. For the winners Shannon and Biss showed epod- form among the forwards, and -Winham, Hester, and Warwick were most conspicuous among, the backs. Ledger and Pearce "(forwards), find Greenwood, Shearer, and Taylor (backs) shaped best for Union Company. Mr., W. J. Carson was the referee. . The fixture has been an- annual one since 1907, with a break of several, years on account of the war. The Combined Offices have registered seven wins, and the Union Company five wins.
Hannah's Factory defeated Hannah's Warehouse by 18 points to nil: D.I.C. defeated James Smith's by 12 points to 6. .Foote, Cookson, De Clifton, and Carter scored for the winners, and Calluni scored two tries for the losers. ■ ■
Wliitcombe and- Tombs defeated Vickery and Inkesell by 8 points to 6 Tries for the winners were obtained by Whaler and Crerar, the latter converting his own try. For the losers, Wilson and Anton each scored a "try.
