Some time was occupied by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning, in hearing a case in which Mrs. A. Holland sought a separation order and maintenance from her husband, William Holland, a settler near Wallaceville, on the. ground of persistent cruelty. The alleged cruelty ranged from personal violence to the use of most objectionable language, towards the'complainant, for the repetition of which one of the children had been twice punished at school. The defence was that most of the acts were the result of provocation. The order of separation was made, with custody of the three children. Maintenance was fixed at £1 15s a week, with £2 2s costs. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the complainant, and Mr. E. P. Bunny for the defendant.
