OBSCENE LANGUAGE
HEAVY FINE IMPOSED.
" This is one of the worst cases of its kind, I think, that has ever come under your jurisdiction," remarked Chief-Detective Boddam to Mr. E. Page,. S.M., at the Magistrate's, Court to-day, when James Sangster was charged with using obscene language on Lajnbtonquay. Tho accused and a companion boarded a crowded tramcar opposite Government Buildings last night. The accused was under tho influence of liquor at the time, and it was,'when he was requested to alight that he made use of the language, within the hearing of quite a fcumber of people, including ladies. He was a seafaring man, and nothing was known against him. When asked for an explanation regarding his behaviour, the accused said that he could not account for it, other than that it was due to his condition at the time.
Tho Magistrate: "Your language v,-aS very disgusting. -You will bo fined the sum of. :S2O. In default iloui'tocn' days' imprisonment." v
