SYDNEY, This Day.
The report of. the conference of employers recently held in Melbourne. to consider trade relationships recommends : The continuation of the present system of arbitration, in 4 settling wages aud working conditions. That Parliament should decide the number of hours to constitute a week's work. The adoption of the Whitley scheme in a modified form. The introduction of profit-sharing where practicable. The adoption of payment by results. Unemployment insurance by general taxation. Assistance to employees to build homes. A Commonwealth legal endowment for children under fourteen^ where the wages do not exceed the stipulated amount.
[The Whitley report recommended the creation in each industry of district councils, representing the trades unions and the employers' and employees' associations, and the institution m particular work of works committees, representing employers and employees, with the object of settling the principles and conditions of employment, and securing to the workers a share ofHhe responsibility for the observance of the conditions of work, preventing and adjusting differences, and ensuring the greatest poseible security of ' earnings and employment.]
