AYRBHIEB, FROM SYDNEY. On Thursday the F. and S. steamer Ayrshire sailed from Sydney for Auckland to load (of Home. Loading will be continued at Whakatane, Tokomaru Bay, and Wellington. The vessel will leave this port about the 25th November for Liverpool, via ports. TOTVA'S DEPARTURE POSTPONED. The H.M.B. Tofua will not leave Wellington tor San Francisco, via ports, until 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. OTIRA AT HOME. The Shaw-Savill liner Otira arrived at Hull on the sth November from Napier, which port she left on the 17th September. A NEW LIGHT CRUISER. Messrs. William Beardmore and Co., Ltd., of Dulmulr, launched in .September the light cruiser Raleigh, which was built for the British Admiralty. The vessel, which is the name-ship of her class, is of the following dimensions:— Length, 565 ft; breadth, 65ft 3in; displacement, 10,000 tons; with machinery of 70,000 i.h.p., designed to give her a speed of about_ 34 knots. The Raleigo was laid down some time before the close of the war, and it is stated that she, and her sister ships were intended to hunt down the commerce raiders sent out by the Germans. Their armour, speed, and large radius of .action would specially fit them for this work.' UNION COMPANY'S WAIKAWA. The Northumberland Shipbuilding- Company. Ltd., Howdon-on-Tyne, launched the single-screw steamer Waikawa to the order of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd. She is 415 ft in length by 63ft breadth, and 35{ft depth, ami will carry about 9000 tons deadweight on 28ft 3in draught. ' She is classed 100 Al at Lloyd's, and has an exceptionally complete specification to meet the requirements of the owners' specific trades. The loading and discharging gear secure the rapid handling of cargoes. ■ The propelling machinery, built by the North Eastern Marine Engineering Company, Ltd., Wallsend-on-Tyne, comprises a set of triple expansion surface-condensing engines, having cylinders 27, 44, 73, by 4Sin .stroke, with threa s.e. boilers, 15ft flln by lift Bin, having a working pressure of 1801b, and fitted with Howden's forced draught. This machinery is estimated to give the vessel a speed of 11} knots loaded.

Another addition to the Union Company's fleet of cargo boats—the Kaiwarra—arrived at Sydney towards the end of October on hei maiden voyage from Great Britain, North American ports, Vancouver, Suva, and Newcastle. The new vessel is of 3bout 5000 tons gross register, is one of the "X" class of Union steamers, and is similar in construction to the freighters Kauri, Kaitangata, and Kaiapoi, all well known in New Zealand ports. She is, however, slightly larger than the other vessels of her class. The Kaiwarra will complete her discharge at Adelaide, and will then load a cargo of salt at that port for New Zealand.

The Wanaka will leave Wellington for New castle at 10 o'clock to-night.

For Lyttelton, Dunedin. Bluff, and Melbourne the Westralia will leave Wellington at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.

With cargo for Gisborne the Putiki will leave Wellington to-morrow evening.

With a full coal cargo the Komata is due at Wellington on Thursday evening from Westport.

The Kahika Is to sail from Greymouth to> morrow night for Wellington with a coal cargo.

The Waimea is due at Wellington to-morrow from Wanganui, and is to sail the same evening for Nelson and West Coast.

To-morrow the Kamo is to sail from Wellington for Westport, and will be followed by the Kaiapoi on Thursday.

Owing to heavy weather at Tarakohe yesterday the Alexander was unable to load cement there, and will consequently not come to Wellington this week.

With a small amount of coal for discharge here theNgahere is due at Wellington this evening, and will' proceed to Tokomaru Bay and Napier with the remainder.
