SUPREME COURT AT AUCKLAND
TWO MURDER CHARGES.
(II TELISRAPI.—PRESS ASSOCIATIOH.)
AUCKLAND, 10th • November.
The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened to-day. There were two charges of murder set down for hearing. In regard to a charge of murder against Mary Ann Nareta Kere, Mr, Justice Stringer said he took it upon himself to advise that the Grand. Jury should return no bill oi> the charge of nmrder, and return a true bill for concealment of birth.
Referring to the charge of murder against Walter Ashby, the Judge saidl he would take the responsibility of advising the Grand Jury to' throw out the bill. The only thing that implicated the accused was the statement made by ani of the victims of the occurrence, but as that statement was not made with the full knowledge of deponent of his impending death, it was inadmissible. Even if it was admissible, it was extremely vague.
There were two separate charges of murder against, Ashby, no'bill being returned in one, and a true bill in the other.
