The firs'. New Zealand Parliament building at Auckland is shortly to be demolished, in connection -with the construction of a main eastern outlet for the city. In the building, -which fronts Parliament-street, facing the back of the Supreme Court, the Legislature of New Zealand opened its first session in May, 1854, and continued to hold its annual sessions ithere until 1865, in which year Parliament met at Wellington, where the Seat of Government had become permanently located, under an Act passed in November, 1863. The' Wellington Education Board has made the following appointments:— Makerua (sole teacher), Miss L. J. Frayne; Kopuatroa (assistant), Miss I. D. Procter; Pongaroa, (assistant), Miss N. Cameron; Shannon (assistant), Miss M. J. Watson; Petone District High School (assistant), Miss 6. Hitchings; Newtown (assistant), Miss E. Martin. An effort is to be made to raise £1000 in Nelson city and suburbs, as part of the £35,000 which the Salvation Army hopes to get in New Zealand for its war work,
