ECHOES OF THE BRITISH CAMPAIGN , "
These ore echoes of the last great English war loan of £1,000,000,000, the words of men in various ways of life, but all one in tlbeir advocacy of the vital cause of helping the men at the front to hold their end up, heavy as it is. 'What these men said of that great loan they could with equal justice say of the £12,000,000 now before the Dominion. These words of Mr. Lloyd George apply to New Zealand to-day with as much force as ever they did to ,the people of Britain: "There is nothing we can do which will more support our sons and brethren in "their long vigil in the trenches than that we should make the war loan a tremendous success." Subscription to the £12,000,000 loan closes nine days hence.
Duke of Portland: "Some of you used to put nfoney on my horses, though 1 think it unwise to squander money on betting. A more certain return for your money is to back your country." Archbishop of Canterbury: "The money must •be had. The appeal for it is a sacred" one. The cause of right to whioh we have set-oar hands cannot pTe^ vail unless we all make a united and determined 'effort to.assist it to the utmost of our means."
Mr. Lloyd George : " Out with your ready cash —or even your unready cash ! You must have silver bullets or goldwi. bullets. Those who cannot afford gold let them produce silver." The Post Laureate (Robert Bridges) : "It is necessary for every one of us to do his utmost."
Prime Minister of New Zealand (Mr. Massey), in London : "Ton men and women at Home have to show your appreciation of the gallantry of our forces on' land and sea by making this war loan a tremendous success."
Mr. Will. Thome, Labour M.P. :, "Both 'rank and file,' like myself, and wealthy people too must come along with their money, or they will find that the Government will come along and ' pindh' their wealth. The loan is the best investment ever offered by any nation."
Mr. Harry Lander (comedian) : " It's a' th' wee dribbles that make th' mighty ocean; it's a'~th' wee burns that trickle doon frae th' hills that make th' beautiful. lochs." \.
