KISSING VESSEL

. I*4a stated by ths Marine Department that, -Uflum It .is quite certain that the Union Steam Ship Company's overdue cargo vessel is lost, jyi dfflcuJ enquiry will be held. Pealing with the question, the Otago Daily Times says that the Union Company, has absolutely no information of what may have happened to the steamer. She was equipped with a wireless installation, but its radius was limited to about 600 miles. Tlie conjecture that the vessel may have been destroyed by a submarine disturbance which occurred in June is questioned by the local offielals, is on their reckoning she should have been clear of the disturbed locality at that partteular time .

THE PRICE OF BENZINE.

It was stated that the bylaw was made when benzine was about 8s per case, while the present price is over £1 per case, and consequently the launches would run at a loss.' It was decided to allow the launchowners to increase the charges by 25 per cent. during the war.
