DEVON'S HULL COMPLETELY
GUTTED
People who happened to be at points of vantage on Saturday night were rewarded with a brilliant spectacle in the burning of the hull of the old steamer Devon, which has lain bleaching on the rocks near Pcncarrow Head since she '-tut aground there over two years ago. -ctly how the fire originated is not
•wn. It appears that during Saturday ai'tfi'iicun a party of men in a launch visited the hull. A little later smoke was seen to rise from the wreck, and by night the fire was blazing furi ously from end to end of the hull. The burning wreck presented a spectacle of considerable brilliancy, the flames being vividly reflected in the sky and water The fire continued throughout I he night. and was still smouldering yesterday-
Though there has been no opportunity of ascertaining the actual damage, it is thought, .that the hull must be completely gutted. Only a portion of the shell now remains, the bow being almost gone.
