A fatal fire occurred at Fendalton at 10 o'clock .last evening, when a new two-storyed bungalow in Idras-road was destroyed. The victims were Mrs. Cookson, aged about sixty, and her granddaughter aged two years, , daughter of Mr. F. W. Freeman, surveyor. Mrs. Cookson, a well-known resident, has been living with, her son, Mr. J. B. Cookson, who left the house at 7 o'clock, j when everything was safe. j The house was ' full of suffocating ! smoke when the neighbours discovered the blaze, but an attempt was made to remove the furniture.
