SOUTHERN MARKETS

(Bt TELEORtPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) i CHRISTCHURCH, 20th September. The local grain market is still in a stagnant state. The continued dry j weather, which, if not broken before long, will have a serious effect upon growing crops, is no doubt causing growers to hold more firmly on to their wheat. In the meantime millers appear to be well stocked, and are not anxious to buy, even if they could get wheat at a considerable decline upon the rates ruling some time ago. Bran and pollard have been reduced, the former now standing at £5 5s and the latter at £6. and even these figures are said to be far from firm. There are few potatoes offeringand little demand. Growers are holding out for £5 as the lowest figure they will take.
