m Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. A large number of cases were set down for hearing. Five first-offending inebriates were dealt with in the usual manner. Joseph Barker, Arthur Laming, and Michael Maioney, all convicted of drunkenness, were each fined 10s, in default 48 hours in goal. On a charge of being found helplessly drunk, Thomas Renwick was remanded until the 21st inst., for medical treatment. A young man named Evans was convicted of drunkenness and discharged, but for resisting arrest he was mulcted in a penalty, of £2, in default s^ven days in gaol. Evans consented to a prohibi tion order being issued against him. Alfred George Di'iecoll admitted that on Saturday he committed an indecent act in Upper Willis-street. Inspector Hendrey stated that the man was sober at the time of his arrest. His Worship imposed a line of £3, in default 14 daya hard labour. Charges of drunkenness and commit ting an ihdecent act were prpfencd against George Forbes, who plendrd guilty to both. On the first he was convicted and discharged, and on the second fined £1, with the alternative of three days in custody. Albert James Burns, a trooper with mounted men now in Egypt. An order was made for payment of 2s 6d per day. At a sitting of the Lower Hutt Court this morning a first offending inebriate, who failed to appear, had his. bail estreated.
