IMPORTED STOCK. ¦ Recently there has been a large influx of English thoroughbred stock to Australia, and the boats arriving from the Old Country since the outbreak of the war have carried a considerable number of horses. One English owner and breeder, Mr. J. Nestor, has decided to test the New Zealand market, and recently arrived < from Melbourne Trith. a shipment of thoroughbred mares. They 1 were landed after having undergone the usual term of quarantine, and are at present stabled m Wellington. The following is a list of the mares :— ; Brov/n mar© Sita, 6yrs, by Sidus from Nata, a winner in England and important winner in France. Sidus (St. Simon — Star of Fortune) was a good winner in England Brown mare Roea Chamberlain, syrs, by Joe Chamberlain — St. Rosa, a winner in England. Bay ma-re Runaway Girl, aged, by Burnaby (winner of the Cesarewitch) from Nimmo, a winner in England. Bay mare Foudrette, aged, by Roissy, dam Foudragena, a winner in England and in France, where the won important races. Chestnut mare Silver Beacon, syrs, by Campfire 11., dam Silver Grid. Campfire 11. (by Pearl Diver— Wallflower) won a lot of races in . England. He was trained by R. Day, and was a great performer imdeT welter weights. Chestnut mare Wild Oats, five years, by Bachelor's Button from Lola, a- winner in England. Bachelor's Button won the Ascot Gold Vase, two miles four furlongs, and other important races in England, and Lola is a J aughter of Surefoot (winner of the Derby). Brown mare Maisonette, aged, by Grand Duke, -dam Ophelia, a winner in England. Grand Duke (by Isonomy),was a good performer in England. In his first race he defeated Bill of Portland and fifteen others. Bay mare Partigal, six years, by Patron — Gumesse, a winner in England. Patron (by Grand Flaneur) won the Melbourne Cup and was sold to England at the same time as Trenton. Guinesse (dam of Partigal) was a good winner in the Old Country. It is reported that Emperador, Banksia, dnd Bimeter, the members of R. J. Mason's team engaged at Wanganuf, will be shipped North to-day. The Manawatu Trotting Club has decided to give £400 in stakes at its meeting, to be held on 9th June. El Gallo, winner of the Tangahoe Handicap Hurdles at Egmont yesterday, is engaged in the Great Northern Hurdles and Steeplechase at Ellerslie, where he is trained. Other Great Northern candidates that took part in yesterday's race were Waipunoa, Harbour Light, Patronymic, and 'First Consul . El Gallo, who only started racing tins season, is a five-year-oW gelding by Spalpeen — LobeKa, and is owned by Mr. W. J. Ralph. He has some form on the flat. At the Auckland Cup meeting he won the Waitemata Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, in 2min 9sec. He was brought down to tho Wahganui Cujj meeting, and ran unplaced in the Flying Handicap on the first day and the Stakes on the second day. Spalpeen (Gossoon — Windmill), a well-bred horse, took to the jumping business naturally. As a four-year-old he proved a champion at it. He won five hurdle races in succession, including four at Ellerslie, where he finished up winning with 12.6. Spalpeen has sired some smart hurdlers, including Spalfish, one of the top weights in the Great Northern. He has to concede threo stone and a-half to El Gallo. who does not incur any penalty for yesterday's win. Ngapoto (who ran second in yesterday's race) is a four-year-old gelding by Maniapoto — Largesse, by Seaton Delaval— Keepsake, by St. Leger— Bangle. Very satisfactory nominations have been received for the annual meeting of the South Wairarapa Trotting Club, to be held on 3rd June. The entries for the principal events are as follow : — Greytown Trot, two miles. — Resurrection, Nga Raima, Myrtle Palm, No j Shenanagan, Flora Tracey, Monsoon, Out George, Little Bones, Moa Dillon, Forest Bill, Rothschild, Excelsior, Capillose, Colleen Bawn, Goklie, Parole BeUs, Steel Bell.
