(II IEf.BGnAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, 12th May. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Football League was held this evening. The election of officers resulted a-s follows :—: — President, Mr. Jas. Cark-w; secretary. Mr. H. C. Oakley; treasurer, Mr. W. 0. Carla-w ; council of management, Messrs. A. E. Powell (Auckland), D. W. M'Lean (Wellington). F. J. Gladding (Hawkes Bay), F. B. Morton (Taranaki), W. F. Wynyard (Canterbury), Messrs. P. S. Ussher (Wanganui) and N. B. Levin (Nelson) were also elected members of the council, and will take their seats when their respective Leagues comply with certain formalities. „ The annual report and balance-sheefc were read and adopted. The balancesheet showed that £260 was disbursed in grants and loans to various Leagues during the year. The English tour resulted in a loss of £23 2s 6d. It was stated that a total of 297 League players had enlisted for active service, and of these 168 came from Auckland. The following resolution was carried : " r lhat_ this League place on record its appreciation of the gallantry displayed by the New Zealand and Australian troops at their first serious engagement, and extend to the relatives of those injured their deepest sympathy." At the meeting of the new council, held subsequently, it was decided to abandon the proposed Australian tour, the Leagues affected having failed to arrive at an agreement in regard to dated. The New South Wales League wants the New Zealand team to visit Australia in J"une, and the New Zealand League is unable to Send a team until August.
