HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT.
Tha Department of Agriculture, In* dustrie*, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, 22nd August. (Quotations, unless otherwieo stated, are average market prices on spot) : — i Mutton.— There is a better demand for mutton in,' anticipation of higher prices as a. result pi small arrivals io the near future. ' Canterbury mutton, s^d per lb for light-weight; heavyweight, sd; North Island, sd; ©wee, 4fd. Lamb. — The market js steady, with moderate demand!. Canterbury twos, 6|d per lb ; othei than Canterbury, 6|d for light-weight. >, Beef. — A good demand continues. New Zealand hinds, 6fd per lb ; fores, s^d. Supplies of American chilled' beef ore small. Hinds, 6jd per lb ; fores} sid. Argentine shipments are decreasing, only 11,000 quarters were shipped last week. Butt-er.— The market is very quiet, and prices aj-e irregular. Danish, per cwt, 126s to 134&; Siberian, 116s to 1265 ; Irish creamery, 110s to 120s ; Auotrahan, 110s to 120s. Cheese. — The market- is quiet, but rather steadier. Canadian ■white and coloured, per cwt, 70s to 72* ; New Ze»- ' land, white and coloured, 70s to 725, white, exceptionally good, 7te; English cheddar, market is quiet and prices elightly weaker at 76& to 82s. Gram-— The market is stead j and a fair business doing. Australian wheat, 42s 6d c.i.f. ; flour, 34s ex store; Garton oats,' 3s Gd, c.i.f. ; New Zealand beans, f.a.q. (new crop), per 5041b, 375; New Zealand peas (Partridge) per 5041b. 64& Wool. — The market is firm for crosebr*ds suitable for Army clothing. Prices are jjd p** 1 H> higheT than closing rates for last sale. Manufacturers are busy with Government contracts.
