OPENING DAY. DUNiDIN, This Day. There ia sultry weather for the opening day of the Cnp meeting. The going is good ,and the attendance excellent. Results : — Hurdle Race, of 115 soys ; one mile and three-quartersi— Red Earl, 11.2, 1 ; Warsaw, 9,2, 2;' St. Aidan, 11.9, 3. Scratched : Rifle Range and Simon Pure. A fine race. Won by- a head. Length between second and third. St. Kevin, the favourite, was fourth. Time, 3min 25sec. • Gladbrook Handicap, of 100 soys; seven furlongs.— Mere, 7.9 (J. Beard), lj Triumphator, 8.9, 2: Seek Ashore, 8.3, 3. Scratched, Summertime and Beta. Won by a head,, the same • distance be* tween second arid third.- Time, lmin 31$ec. Champagne Stakes, of 250 eovs ; 6 furlongs.—Nightwatch (C. Emmereoii), 8.10, 1; Rmaldo, 8.10, 2; Fender, 9.0. 3. Also started : Whizz and Sea Maid. The five starters rail in line for nearly a furlong, when Rinaldo went to the front and led for a couple of lengths into the straight, where Nigh£wateh wore them down, and -won by nearly a length, Fendier being ten, lengths away. Time, lmin 16sec.
