POSITION AT WAIHI POLICE PROSECUTIONS TO-MORROW.
[BY TELBQBAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WAIHI, This Day.
Since the advent of an adequate force of police the condition of affairs in Waihi and Waikino has become almost normal. The arbitrationists going to and from work at Waikino are not now interfered with, the following-up tactics of the strikers being practically abandoned. Engine-drivers, however, when in the streets, are still attended by strikers, and, in some cases, also by the wives of strikers. On these occasions the polico are always present. There is plenty of surface work offering by the" Waihi Company, and meanwhile 'a good deal of employment is given at Waikino in the general cleaning and overhauling of crubhing and treatment plants, also in connection with the company's electric transmission line from Horahora. Yesterday about thirty fresh hands were put on at Waikino, and two or three more this morning, making about fifty hands in all now engaged. Hayward's picture show is being boycotted by the strikers owing to the fact of a few engine-drivers attending, the strikers objecting to associate in the same building with them. Eyerytlung is quiet here and at Waikino to-day. Mr. J. Cullen, Commissioner of Police, attends daily at Waikiuo and Waihi, his headquarters being Waihi. To-morrow some iifty strikers are summoned to appear at the Court to answer charges of using threatening language, assault, and following engine-drivers.
