, SATURDAY'S RESULTS DIAMONDS DEFEATED BY ST. JOHNJS. HOSPITAL AGAIN VICTORIOUS. SUMMARY OF RESULTS. : St. John's (3) v. Diamonds (0). - (2) v. V.M.C.A. (0). Ramblers (2) v. Thistle (0). Corinthians (5) v. Rovers (1). . The, wet weather was undoubtedly a detrimental factor in Association matches on Saturday, and in many instances it is difficult to account for the unlooked-for results. Undoubtedly, the most genuine surprise of the day was the defeat of Diamonds at the hands of St. John's at I '-Miramar. It was noticeable that Diamonds sadly lacked combination, while their opponents were fairly good in this [xeOTect. The meeting between Hospital I ana V.M.C.A. at Porirua was praetic- • ally a foregone conclusion, and the home ! team accounted for V.M.C.A. to the ! ! 'tinie of 2 goals to nil. Ramblers were ' too good for Thistle at Miramar, and ! Corinthians had a walkover with Rovers. ' ' ST. JOHN'S (3) r. DIAMONDS (0). > The game was played at Miramar, Land* at no time proved particularly mii tereeting. Diamonds lacked combina- [ tion, and early in the game a eansider- ; able score would have been put up against them, but for the very ■ clever -defence of the goalkeeper (Bidmead), ■ who was more than once applauded for i his, work. > . -The. first goal *cored by St. John's ftnt credited to Bryant, who throughout played an excellent game on the left wing, and who took full advantage of a' 'splendid i centring kick by Mawby (right wing). In the second spell Dia- , monds had the advantage of tite wind, TbufT ,,were nnable 'to ' score/ ,wbik> StJohn'e, on the other hand, scored twice nszre, Benson -being -reAponsiblfr^on 'both occasions. Mr. Yeomans Was referee. :< (2) V.-V.M.C.A. (0). Hospital had much the beet of this game, Hughes scoring tie first goal }w3taan- ten minutes' -after *-tl»« conl : . ntsocement. The ground was very slippery, and poor shooting by the Hospital forward* helped to keep' ; the^sjbre down. Changing ends, Phillip* ; gojf £w>y, and gave Cockbnrn (Hospital I goal-keeper) a "very, hot shot. Beavis,'; 1 meeting the return, again shot, but Cock- ' burn was unbeatable. Hospital had the bulk of the play, but did not score the second goal until just before time, when Hughes made a fine run through the V.M.C.A. defence, and placed the ball beyond^ Hollis's reach. Mr. R. 8. Lith-> gow was the referee. RAMBLERS (2) v. THISTLES (0). , The meeting of Ramblers and Thistles at Miramar produced a veiy evenly-con-tested game, Ramblers eventually beating their opponents by two goals, scored late in "the second spell. It would be hard to say which was the superior team, ;' Thistles, if anything,' showing, better,'; combination. The weather .'condi-' tk>i» were miserable, and in consequence' the game was not too interesting, tne greasy ' ball being probably accountable {or the* bad shooting on both, sides. B. Millar was early to the fore by stav-j ing off Ramblers' attacks, and throughout the game it was" generally this" player who frustrated any goal-seeking on Ramblers' part. Thistle did most of ' thei attacking in the first half of the game, Gibson- and Barnett being particularly noticeable. ' No" goals jcame their way, however, a shot from Barnett, it is true, eluded P Rajnblers* goalkeeper, but that jjlsjyer . wa*s Tuled ' off-side. Things looked all "in Ramblers' favour on the commencement of the second spell, as 'they now had the wind in their favour, but it was- comparatively late in the game that they drew in the lead. H. Hart scored the two goals for Ramblers, his first one being rather a hollow affair, the leather rebounding off him into the goal whence it had been projected by tie goalkeeper. Any uncertainty ia this, hiweyer, was made up for a few moment^ later, when, the same player scored with a rather good shot. There was no further score. Mr. Newbold was referee. CORINTHIANS (5) v. ROVERS (1). Corinthians gained their first victory of the season by defeating Rovers at Miramar .by. 5 goals to 1. , The game contained little of interest, and as the score '^indicates, Corinthians easily had the- better of the game. Corinthians started »well by scoring in the first few minutes, Treverick steering the ball into the; net. Ives scored the second 'goal a few* minutes later from a centre from Treverick, after some fine combined play on ,the right r wing. From some play in the centre Ives scored again, Af£er this reverse Rovers livened a little and' Hart 'scored their only goal. Towards thc n end of the spell Ives scored again, makinc the totals Corinthians 4, Rovers 1. Tn» second spell was devoid of interest, the extra goal being scored by Studholm. The final score was : Corintihians 5, Rovers 1. Mr. J. B. Paton carried the whistle. SECOND DIVISION Wadestown defeated Petone by 4 goals to 1. ' Swifts and Toa drew — one each. FOURTH DIVISION. Swift* drew, with Marist, there being no score.- . Johnaonville, 6; Institute, 1. Institute only had eight men.
