NATIONAL GALLERY
THE GROWING FUND. Tho exhibition of British pictures attracted a very large attendance on Saturday, and on Sunday afterncon the gallery was again filled to its utmost capacity. The exhibition has now been open for nearly a -month, and the daily attendances show no sign of falling off. In fact, from present indications they will constitute a record that will not easily be beaten. Contributions to the fund that is to be specially devoted to the H. S. Wardell memorial picture are being received daily. A substantial donation has come from the Wairarapa district, where the deceased gentleman was so well known. The Chamber of Commerce has decided to make a ( special effort to present to the National Gallery the very fine painting by James S. Hill, R.1., R. 0.1., entitled "The Tower Bridge, London." This was a very popular picture with the pubKc during the recent ballot and ended second in the voting. A sum of over £100 has already been subscribed by the council and members, and it is expected that the balance required (£6O) will be raised without any difficulty. The Arts Club has selected as its presentation to the National Gallery three of the very fine etchings by Frank Brangwyn, A.R.A. They are: "The Boat Yard, Venice," "The Tow Rope," and "The Black Mill, Winchester." LIST OF GIFTS. £ s. d. Amount acknowledged ... 3390 4 7 H. Linley Richardson ... 3 3 0 Wm.
