VALEDICTORY.
WELLINGTON HOSPITAL BOARD. Apart from the long review of hospital work by the Chairman (Mr. J. P. kV^f.' M - p -) tn e main business of the Wellington District Hospital Board at its last meeting yesterday was of a general complimentary and valedictory nature. The members preeent were Messrs. J. P. Luke, M.P., (chairman), J. Frost, J. Smith, C. J. Crawford, J. J. Dcvme, W. Galloway and R. B. Gardener. First the chairman moved a vote of thanks to the local advisory committee, Messrs. Simeon, Freeman, Jones and M'Beth, the honorary secretary, who had sacrificed so much time and money for the public good. Mr. Crawford seconded the motion, which was duly carried. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Smith, a vole of thanks woe passed to Dr. Faulke, of Wellington, who had given up much time to the institution. Several members joined in a tribute to the chairman, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was passed for hi» services. Votes of thanks were also passed to the staffs of the Otaki Hospital and Sanatorium, to the secretary (Mr. Geo. Willis), whom members wished to be reappointed to the new board and to the Press. The application of the Horowhenua County Council for a further rebate on rates on certain flax land, the valuation of which had sunk, was refused, Mr. Gardener dissenting. The reports of the institutions were adopted as follows : —During the month of February, 6 patients were admitted to the Sanatorium, 3 discharged. There are at present 25 patients under treatment, 16 males and 9 females. To the Hospital 18 patients were admitted, 11 discharged, leaving at present 17 patients under treatment, 11 males and b females. There were duiing the month 10 operations under anaesthetics, and two deaths. The hospital was full all the month. CHARITABLE AID BOARD. The last ordinary meeting of the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present— Messrs. R. C. Kirk (chairman), F. Cohen, and W. H. Morrah. The credit balance was stated by the secretary (Mr. G. Willis) as £1469 19s lid, and cash in hand £96 6s sd, totalling £1566 6s 4d. Accounts passed for payment amounted to £879 16s 2d. Mr. F. Cohen congratulated the chairman on his election to the board by the citizens. He was glad that Mr. Kirk would be able to continue his good services. The chairman, in reply, said he was touched by the kindly remarks of Mr. Cohen. He- had taken an interest in charitable aid work for twenty years, and it was natural that he should desire to see the inauguration of the new system of charitable relief.
