CHRISTCHURCH FIRE BRIGADS. CONDITIONS OF WORK.

The Fire Board took exception to fire* men first ventilating their alleged grievances through the newspapers, but decided to hear a deputation from the men. The interview was hold last . night, when the jnen set forth that the present rate of pay was not sufficient, and asked for a rise to £2 lUs per week after i certain period of service. The board resclved not to alter the present rate ; that no portion of the theatre fees go to the men; that donations made by the public in recognition of services rendered at fires should go to the brigade, to be applied to the comfort and recreation of the men" or otherswise for the men's benefit, subject to regulations made by the brigade and approved by the board. The board will also pay Is per hour for work done after 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Some other slight concessions were granted. Alteration to the regulations are to be printed and signed "by the men The present agreements will be terminated by those refusing to sign. v The new superintendent is to be appointed this evening.
