Mr. V. G. Day was on the bench. Dotcctivo Bishop said that the case had been remand^ a fortnrght ago in order to give tho polico an opportunity to make further enquiries. In the meantime the papers in the coco had been eubmitted to the Crown law officers in "Wellington, with the result that the police had been advised to take no further action in tho matter. His Worship said that either one or two things had occurred : either the police had been badly advised when they undertook tho prosecution, or tho processes of tho court had 'been mieured. It appeared to him) (and would probably co appear to most people) that either the persons who laid tho chargoa had not proper grounds for doing &o, or thut the charges were laid with^ tho intention of recovering moneys by criminal process, which could not have been obtained by civil process. The case would bo Et>lo?k out.
