Tho engineers »f Mr. C. Seager'k fleet vill hold a social gathering at the Conimerci.it Travellois' Club on Tuesday next for the purpose of tendering to Mi. Sender their congratulations upon attaining his business jubilee. Mr. Seager, -«ho is mp.ntsgins; owner of tho Wellington Steam Packet Company, is an old colonist, and has done much to further the interests of the empire city and tbo commerce of New Zealand generally, and Wellington, , in particular. He was born in ,1833 in Ifi-mpshi™, England, and *v/as binught op to the engineering trade, arriving in tli£> colony ir 1855 by the barque Acasta. which oalbd at Nelson on tha way to Wellington. 'Mr. Seagcr established the Phoenix Foundry, vlncli hn emducted for eighteen years, s?cuiing a largo trade. In the meantime he had o:tablishfd tho line of ste;:Jnship3 known iw the Wellington Steam Pacjbt Conippny, and ca thi! business doveioped nnd required his undivided attention, he disposed of tho foundry and cngine;riiii works to Messrs. \Robertsoh and, CV.. who still carry on i> considerable bunnebj.
