Judging by the number of charges of disorderly conduct dealt with by Dr. i M'Arthur, S.M., and Mr. W. Inglis, j J.P., at the Petonc-Magistrate's Court | yesterday the local police must have had a busy time lately. James Burton, for assaulting P. Guthrie, was convicted and ordered to pay Court costs 7s. The same defendant and T. Ninness, for threatening behavior, were dealt with in the same way. George Gardiner, defended by Mr. M'Grath, was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner in a railway carriage, but the case was dismissed. . Richard Coutts, who had broken a pane of 'glass in a Chinese storekeeper's shop," was ordered io make good 'the damage (15s), and to pay 7s costs, iv default three days' imprisonment. Guilford, and Nejl Johnston. Convictions were recorded, and the defendants were each ordered.to pay 9s, 11s, and 11s costs respectively. For obscenity, W. G. Winter was fined 40s, with 13s ccsts. Tlie alternative was fixed at seven days' imprisonment. John Quinn, for assaulting Emmanuel Floyd, was fined Ss, with 7s costs. A charge against Harry Kingan of disorderly conduct was adjourned. John Murray and S. Halford, were charged with" engaging in a calling pn Sunday, at work that was not immediately necessary. Their contention was that the work — viz., taking the roof off a house — was an urgent necessity, under the circumstances of the case. Mr. R. C. Kirji appeared for the Borough Council. James Brocklehursfc -^a^ fined ss, with 7s costs, and £2 2s solicitors' fee, foi! failing to disinfect a vehicle after it had been used to, convey to the hospital a patient suffering from an. infectious disease. Mr. Kirk appeared for the* prosecution. Thomas H. Harley, George Packwood, A. Brice,.an.d G. D. M'Ewen, for allowing horses to wander, were ordered to. pay 11s cosis.
